APPROACH

-
Nostalgia is one of my guiding aesthetic forces. I am always aiming for classic, romantic images, and im inspired as much by 1940’s black and white film photos of lovers in Paris as I am by photos of musicians of the 60s and 70s. I am interested in the ways people naturally intertwine, how they hold themselves, and their subtle expressions of love … as well as the imperfect, the odd, the moments that become art. Over the years I have refined my approach to shooting, which is a blend of photojournalistic observation and editorial artistry. My goal is to capture something artful and true.

I take on an extremely limited number of weddings per year in order to give my full enthusiasm and creative energy to the couples I work with.

INSPIRATION

-
I find inspiration in many places, from twentieth century fashion editorials, vintage family photographs, old Hollywood, and 1970s photos of actors and rock stars. Many classic photographers inform my work (Robert Doisneau, Duane Michals, Dora Maar, Louise Dahl-Wolf, and many more), as well as other artists (Patti Smith is my personal saint). My creativity is fueled by art of all kinds: cinema, travel, museums, cafes, literature, music, architecture and interiors. All of it.

FILM

I shoot a hybrid of digital and film photography. My digital retouching is film inspired and creates a sense of cohesion in my work. Each medium has its strengths.  I love adding film to my work because it has a tangible quality to it.
Film is imperfect, unpredictable, and magical; I often shoot portrait sessions on 35mm and medium format film, while the wedding day is mostly shot on digital, with film available to be added to your package. For those who love film’s imperfect magic, having me shoot entirely on film with a digital second photographer is also an option.
